Alabo Philmoore inspects Gas Turbine in Bakana
The gas turbine to supply Bakana and Ogurama communities uninterruptible power supply has arrived the Independent Power Project, IPP, site in Bakana.
The project, which is unique and novel in Nigeria, is financed by the Degema Local Government Area.
Speaking while inspecting and supervising operations in Bakana, Chairman of Council, Alabo Tony Philmoore, PhD, said the
project when completed would guarantee uninterruptible power supply to Bakana, Ogurama, Tombia and Bukuma communities.
He said the project had three components; generation, transmission and distribution, adding that generation would begin immediately after installation next week while transmission and distribution would follow thereafter.
Alabo Philmoore said at the inception of his administration, he adopted a three point agenda of Electrification, Education/Empowerment and Security, pointing out that he had been able to reasonably fulfill the others except electrification due to Covid-19 induced delays and unforeseen circumstances.
The council chairman apologized for the delay in the project delivery and assured his constituents that the project would be completed and commissioned in the life of the current administration.
Corroborating the chairman's statement, Osas Obaseki, an engineer working with D. I. Investment, the project consultants, said the gas turbine would be ready for use three days after the arrival of the lead engineers next week.
Mr. Obaseki said the turbine had a capacity to generate one megawatts of electricity when operating at full capacity but would be configured to generate less as the law in Nigeria would not permit Independent Power Project Operators from crossing the one megawatts mark.
He said the turbine had flexible energy use system with the capacity to run on LPG, that is, cooking gas and CNG.
